AYURVEDA TREATMENT OPTIONS
Shirodhara
Shirodhara is a therapy in Ayurveda in which warmed herbal oil is gently and continuously poured through a copper vessel over the forehead and scalp. It is calming and strengthening for the nervous system. It can help to reduce mental stress and anxiety and aids in innate self-healing. It is also well known for supporting hormonal balance.
A shirodhara session includes marma (vital energy point) therapy, pada abhyanga and shiro abhyanga.
Marma therapy is applied to the Tala Hridaya (5 hearts) to bring support to prana and give a sense of stability to the emotional body. It is also known to help support the heart, lungs, and circulatory health.
Pada (foot) abhyanga facilitates the subtle energy of Apana Vayu to move down towards the feet. Stimulating the opening of the feet is grounding and benefits overall health.
Shiro (head) abhyanga focuses on the entire scalp, improving the health of the eyes, ears and supporting emotional stability.
At least 3 sessions are traditional as a full therapy and highly recommended. Each Shirodhara session is 45 minutes.
Abhyanga
Abhyanga sessions are traditional Ayurvedic full body massage using warm herbalized oil. The oiling of the body in abhyanga is said to saturate the body with love. Nourishing our largest organ, the skin, with oil allows the medicinal qualities of the herbs to pass through the minute cellular channels and penetrate deeply into the layers of tissues. The combination of oil with touch stimulates neurochemicals found in our nervous system which benefits us hormonally and psychologically.
Specific Benefits:
• Calms the mind and nervous system
• Increases circulation and helps remove toxins naturally from the tissues
• Brings softness, strength and color to the body
• Tones muscles and gives vigor to the tissues
• Increases longevity and decreases the effects of aging
• Stimulates the internal organs of the body, local veins and ligaments
• Removes dryness, soothes stiffness, and strengthens resistance to stress and injury
• Alleviates stiff, coarse, fatigued and numbness of the feet
• It is highly beneficial for anxiety, depression, stress, fatigue, as well as benefiting sleep patterns.
Ayurvedic massage is highly nourishing and an effective way to bring the qualities of the herbal oil into the body. Receiving abhyanga in addition to your personal asana and meditation practice is very powerful and can relieve deep spasms and tightness in the body. Over time it corrects chronic imbalances and helps one to engage in life with more fluidity and ease.
Each Abhyanga session is 45 minutes.
