Guru Purnima is a unique event and the fullest expression of love between Guru and disciple. There is no day during the year like this full moon day, when the love and grace of the Guru catapults disciples toward their spiritual goal.

"On this beautiful day of Guru Purnima, let us all join in hearts and minds in respect and honor and love for our Guru. That significance is infinite. The greatest of writers have been unable to completely sing that glory. So let us all hold the feet, the sandals, of our guru in our hearts and in doing the puja, bring that glory to our hearts. If we are truly able to do that then we will achieve mental peace, the siddhis of all our positive actions and, most of all, spiritual growth."

—Anandi Ma

Bapuji talks about this special day

The Sanskrit word for full moon is purnima, so this day is known as Guru Purnima, the day when disciples express their love and devotion and thank the Guru for the gifts of love and grace, which are given unconditionally.

Guru Purnima is a very special day because the energy of God pours more profoundly than any other through the form of the guru. On this day, all the masters work together universally for the welfare of humanity, and their love for their disciples swells through their hearts.

The unique union of the hearts of the guru and disciple manifests exquisite and unimaginable changes for the growth of the disciple. Compared with other times, on this day the process of removing karmic blocks, fears, and doubts becomes more possible and far deeper. Although this process is a subtle one, being in the physical presence of the guru on this day holds deep and special merit. The meeting of eyes and openness of hearts bring transformations that are not easy at other times. When the disciple touches the toe and third eye of the guru with sandalwood paste, the ignorance and darkness of the heart and mind are destroyed. As the master looks upon the disciple within and without, the impossible becomes possible—that moment, that day.

The union of love in the hearts of the guru, disciple, and the spiritual family gathered is so powerful and unique that it further deeply attracts and pulls the very presence of the Guru of all Gurus, God.
